Last Blog Post! =)

During my first semester of college, I think it was a very long learning process.  There was many things that I did this semester that I will not do next semester and many things that worked for me. Such as my study habits, when I do my homework, when I eat, what I eat, my class times, and a few other things here and there.  Overall I think my first semester was a huge learning experience. I learned that I cannot always wait till the last minute for things, I cannot underestimate what I know for tests and for the subject.  Hopefully it won’t take too much longer into my second semester to know what I have to do to maintain a decent gpa.
My biggest challenges so far have been making enough time to do school work and prioritizing school before friends.  My biggest achievements so far I think would have to be my finals. I studied the hardest for them than I have for anything all year.  I also think that by staying in a class that I almost dropped out of because I wasn’t doing so well in and sticking it out and trying harder is an achievement.  Since I knew that I wasn’t doing so well in a class, I went and talked to the teacher a couple times about what I can do and asked if she can help me, sometimes she didn’t but I also went to the writing center which was very helpful.  Next semester, If I am having trouble with writing I will definitely be attending the writing center more often. Also with math or a different subjects, there are tutors for that.
Time management for me wasn’t top notch.  I usually tried to get the work done that was due first for the most part.  For example, If I went to math Monday and had an assignment due Wednesday, id wait to do all my work that was due Tuesday first.  The most time I put into math and anthropology.  Math is always a struggle and something you actually need to learn or else you can’t go onto the next thing, and anthropology was just an awful class. I don’t recommend it to anyone unless you know what your getting yourself into before you go.  It was unfair that we didn’t get to pick our classes because if that was the case, I definitely would not have picked anthropology or an online math class!
My grades this semester have not been A’s and B’s…mostly C’s.  I’ve never been an A student, mostly because I’m lazy. I wish I wasn’t lazy because I’d love to get A’s.  Less to worry about coming into the end of the semester.  The goal that we set for ourselves in the beginning of the semester sounded good, and were easier said than done.  I wish I didn’t procrastinate and I wish I stayed on top of everything before it got too late.  Somethings I did do on time and didn’t procrastinate, but the others yes, I did put them off for a while.  In order to get to the point I would like to be at, I really cannot procrastinate and be lazy.  They’re both very bad habits and I know the are too but they’re hard to fix.

Campus safari- day of peace

The day of peace went really well.  I went for the first part of it.  There was no stepteam which is what i really wanted to see because i think the step team is the coolest thing. But first there was the teacher announcing why he made this "day of peace" an new annual thing and then the mayor of New Haven was there and he announced to the audience that he was happy to be the mayor of New Haven because of all new events like this one.  So after that, the teacher announced the guy and the girl that were going to be mc-ing for the rest of the day.  The first Performance of the day though was a dance performance which there is a picture of on the top of this, and it was really good, the song was all about peace and the dance was really peaceful like it was supposed to be.  After they were done dancing, a girl was doing a zumba routine and there was 3 songs they danced to.  The zumba instructor was really good, shes actually in my history class, but anyways, she asked the audience if anyone else wanted to join her with the dance and a few people went up. They all did really well. But all in all, i think that the day of peace was a really good idea and i think it is a great idea for the university to do annually from now on.

Updates for final project

For this final project, I am doing my project on nutrition and i have gotten to almost 4 minutes on the video so far and already its better than my midterm video.  I think its better because now i have writing on the video when i wasn't sure how to do that last time, even though now that i figured it out, it was very obvious....I have a beginning, and I have one interview so  far but i think i am going to have a few more for more opinions and also not just boring writing and pictures.  Theres also a youtube video at the beginning thats of a song remix about the "freshman 15."  Towards the middle/end, I think I'm going to make a movie with my friends like the show "I used to be fat."  The show has fat kids before they go off to college but in this case it will be the semester after freshman year and how they will transform and make better choices in the upcoming year.  There will be a boy or a girl thats fat but with like pillows or something and they will be exercising a lot and eating better the summer before their sophomore year.  I think this will be different from other peoples because there are so many good shows to reenact and i'm sure not that many people chose nutrition and the freshman 15 so that makes it different as well.

final project!

For  my final project, I think i would like to do it on nutrition in college.  I picked nutrition because there is a lot to say about it and there is an obvious problem/solution for the topic.  The problem can be that a lot of students in college gain the "freshman 15" which is very common.  There is a solution for this.  Many exercise techniques, exercise routines, eating habits, eating pattern, and many other little changes to make so students don't gain the freshman 20!  In the first video project, I thought that the interviews were the most interesting part so i think that my final will also have videos.  I will also include the names of the people which I had lacked in the last one and it brought my grade down.  I will try to also include some quotes from outside sources (websites, nutritionists, etc.) because i feel as though that made the projects that had included quotes, look like they really did research and tried hard on the project.  I will try to fix the sound which my midterm project didn't really go so well, so i'll try to fix that.  Lastly, I will try to mix everything up.  For example, not have 5 videos in a row, or 5 quotes in a row, I will make sure everything is spread out to make it easier to watch and not be bored with it.

college relationships.

By far, I think this was the most interesting topic!  Its so relatable with everyone and the presentation really got everyone going!  The questions were excellent and they tried a new approach to presenting.  The little colored cards were a little bit pointless, not in a bad way but they just worked to get everyone involved in a group of different people.  I know for myself, I was very interested to hear peoples opinions on some of the topics because one of the questions related very closely to my situation now.  The "on campus boyfriend" topic i tried to pay attention to because for a while I was thinking that it wouldn't be such a good idea having a boyfriend around all the time and my parents were thinking the same thing when they saw my midterm grades so then i came up with the same plan most people recommended in class and it was to tell him that we need to have some time to ourselves to do our school work and then when its all done, then we can hang out.  So I thought it was cool that that was even a question because sometimes i feel like oh i would be the only one to be in this situation and its not necessarily a good one.  Besides that, I think that this project really helps prove that it doesn't matter how much or how little you do for a project, its the topic that will be the part that gets people's attention because Dominique's group really didn't do anything out of the ordinary but everyone was pretty engaged because of what the topic was.  This project I think was my favorite.

Louie's group!

In my opinion, this project was very good! The part i liked the most though, was how it was telling you what type of personality and what side of the brain you were and thats cool because I've always wondered what type of personality i am but i would never go about finding it myself.  The video they had showed was a great part to the presentation.  For some reason, after seeing their project, I think that more people should have incorporate a video with their project because everyone loves videos and it was a main part of their project.  The only part that I thought could have used a little improvement, was something we even talked about in class, when we had said that everything just went a little bit too fast.  There was so many questions and it was hard to think about my answer then hear the answer then right away go to a different question.  Also a tiny thing that could have been changed, was the power point.  Its just a really small part of the project but I think that was a little boring just because it was a white background with black letters.  After all, I thought the project was very good!

intramurals!

SCSU offers a variety of different intramural sports.  Theres usually 2 per season. I know that last season, they offered softball and flag football.  Softball was very fun, a little scary though at some points, like when a really big guy was up and you know he hits the ball hard, it gets a little scary.  Usually I'd purposely miss the ball......but other than that, i love the game so it was fun anyways.  This season they're offering dodge ball, 3 on 3 basketball, and indoor soccer.  Playing dodgeball this season is fun also.  Again a little scary at times when your facing big guys, but no big deal, i just move out of the way.  To have a team in intramural sports, you must have at least 2 girls on the team, i guess thats why I play.  I think that everyone should at least play one season of intramurals.  Its one or two days a week, monday and wednesday for at the most 2 hours, but its really fun also.  Its a fun way to keep somewhat in shape without having o go to the gym!  A funny story about intramurals, my cousin went to Uconn, and she was friends with a kid named joe, and joe would always ask her to fill in for his team when he didn't have a girl show up.  So she would, and she was good at most sports they played and one day joe asked her out after the game was over and they went out for dinner or whatever and now they're married!  Imagine they met through college intramural sports....weird.

interesting?!

Abortion isn't exactly something that interests me, but its something that people know about and for the most part have an opinion on therefore, abortion is my topic.  Now most people are pro-life, but it differs from situation to situation.  I read an article about a girl that was pregnant at age 15, the girl was pro-life, but one day while she was in school, the school sent her off to an abortion facility because thats what she had requested.  The girl just didn't want her parents or family to find out.  When the girl's mother found out about this, she was fuming and wanted to have the school fined for not telling her what was going on.  In my opinion, the 15 year old girl should not have had an abortion although she couldn't take care of it, but there are so many different and better options rather than killing an unborn baby.  Like the show "16 and pregnant" for instance, one of the teen moms, Caitlyn, had her baby and gave it up for adoption.  Adoption i think is probably the best idea for someone that cannot take care of the baby.  Another article states that nowadays, more and more doctors are unwilling to preform abortions on patients.  Doctors say that half of pregnancies are unintended and half of them end in abortion.  In a survey, 97% of doctors say that they've encountered a patient that wished to have an abortion.  Only 14.4% said that they have preformed the task.  This is a good thing in my eyes.

kids abusing ages

For Adriana's project, she's doing it on how children are growing up too fast and want to start using websites way too soon in their lives.  I have to agree with that. Myspace and Facebook both have age requirements to join.  In some cases, the moms don't know about their children getting a Myspace or Facebook, but the moms that do know should definitely make them hold off until they are at least of age.  In my opinion, the internet has turned into such a problem for somethings, and barely has sensors for certain things, and for little kids to be exposed at such an early age, isn't so much a good thing.  Also, the first article talks about how moms and their children grow up to be what they raised them to be.  If the mom raised her son/daughter very strict, like wearing only polo clothes, then most likely that child will grow up and have their kids do the same.  But if the kid was raised in a family that barely cared about anything, grades, no food for dinner, don't care about hygiene, then that child will most likely grow up and not really care about these things either.  Although there are some cases in which the child will grow up and be the opposite of what they were raised like most likely because they just didn't like the way they were raised and thats okay too.

sex drugs and alcohol

Dion's group is doing their project on sex, drugs, and alcohol and i think that is a really good topic to pick to discuss with college freshman because everyone most likely has had some interaction with at least one of those things.  It also catches people's attention for some reason when they hear the words sex, drugs, or alcohol.  By reading the fact sheet, I was not really surprised at any of them.  In the first fact, "84 percent of people report they drank alcohol", I don't even think I'd be surprised if that said 100 percent of people drank alcohol. This is because obviously we're under age and thats why so many people have.  We know its against the law and we do it because were told not to i guess. No one wants to be told not to do something because then your going to do it anyways.  Although in the next article, it says that 22.9percent of students reached the medical definition for drug or alcohol abuse.  Or a compulsive use of a substance despite negative consequences, which is a little bit ridiculous considering they know its awful for your health and just your life in general!  That was a shocking fact.  Also, in the chart, it has huge numbers, almost 100 percent of college students have used alcohol in the past year.

time consuming midterms

For my midterm video project, I personally thought that the toughest and most time consuming part was finding how to use everything and how to actually put the things together. I've never made a video of any kind before unless it was like recording a video on my phone or something but that was definitely the hardest part. The interviews are kind of taking me a while because i still haven't gotten a professor yet because i don't know which one to ask, and some of the already interviewed candidates needed to be deleted because of they were either too soft of they just weren't helping the videos cause. Another huge issue for me is the editing part. I don't know why either, it's just so hard and i don't know if its because i'm new to this computer or what but i just can't get the editing down and have already deleted some things i didn't want to delete, put parts where i didn't want them to be, and everything else. Eventually it'll come together! I actually have been doing my project a lot, it hasn't been everyday but the days it has been, it's been for a while, and also I obviously plan on working on it more but the day before is probably when i'm going to do last minute revisions, i know thats not the best idea but thats just the way it always ends up going.

campus safari-gym #7

The fitness center is fun and a great place to go to feel good about your day. I don't know about you but whenever i exercise, i just feel great afterwards. Also, the class i took last week was zumba which is really fun, it was on wednesday from 7-8 and afterwards you know it was good because your dripping with sweat! Also, the fitness center is open Monday through Thursday 7am to 10pm, on Friday its open 7am to 8pm, on Saturday its 9:30am to 4:30pm and Sunday 2pm to 7pm. And the charge is $60 on your hoot loot. For exercise machines, there are 8 treadmills, 4 ellipticals, 2 stair steppers, 4 bikes, an abs machine, a tricep machine, benches, free weights, and a free weight room, a power clean rack, leg machines, then way at the end of the gym, theres 2 rooms, one room for bike classes, and the other for other classes such as zumba.

midterm project

Okay so my movie is coming along. A few little problems here and there like how to do certain things on the computer but as i go i'll figure them out. Also, some of the people i interviewed are people i know, and some are people i just randomly asked to answer the questions and to be in the video. I did this because I thought it was good to get a variety of people in the video. I also decided to use some upperclassmen and some freshman for the videos because i thought that could have an impact on the answers they gave. Since they've been in school for longer than we have, i figured they'd have good input, which they did!
For the questions i asked, they were mostly all the same and very general. Not because i was lazy and didn't want to think of another few questions, because i can easily come up with other questions, but I wanted to see all the different varieties of answers and responses I got to the question what is critical thinking? And what does it mean to you? Some answers were along the same lines but just worded differently and some were more of what they think the definition of critical thinking is and some were in depth with examples.

critical thinking!

The book i chose for this assignment is called "New Directions for Teaching and Learning-Fostering Critical Thinking"and the book pretty much states that critical thinking cannot be taught to those who don't open their minds to it. Its one of those things that is supposed be told for you to teach yourself. In my opinion, your either a good critical thinker, or your not. Your not born with critical thinking, therefore you need to learn how to be a critical thinker. By doing this, you need to learn how to think outside the box. If you think outside the box, your more likely to be a critical thinker because your not thinking so literally and your getting the bigger picture. "There are two types of information that should help: increasing evidence from research on teaching and learning, and psychological studies of thinking processes. These lines of inquiry suggest the important variables that affect thinking during instruction."(p. 11) This means that either you work hard at learning what you need to and what your instructed to, or psychologically you just naturally think that way.

stress relief!

Stress and students is a very common match. This week, i have been going to the gym. In my opinion, the gym is a very good stress reliever because you can just get it all out at the gym. It also can help you forget about some stress. I know that a lot of people like to listen to their ipods at the gym and by having their favorite song be playing in their head as they work out can really help you forget the stressful life your having. I think there are a couple of things to do for stress relief. One thing i think will help a lot is obviously the gym, I also think that seeing your friends and just hanging out with them for a while, sleep is also a huge, obvious one. So by seeing your friends for a while, they can help relieving your stress because they'll just make you forget about why your stressed or they'll make you tell them why your so stressed and they'll try to help you. I know that whenever i'm stressed and i have so much to do i always go to my friends or family and they help me do whatever i'm doing. Another stress reliever is sleep. If you get enough sleep, you shouldn't be tired in class and you can focus more and then again wouldn't have to stress later if you don't know the assignment because you paid attention in class. Lastly, I get stressed allot when i'm behind with my work and think i wont be able to finish it in time. Therefore, to prevent this huge problem that i, along with i'm sure many others, i try to do a little everyday up until the day its due just so i'm not crammed with a million hours of work for one night.

stay healthy!

This blog is going to be easy for me, i'm always sick! Wether its allergies, a sore throat, my eyes hurt, whatever, i've always got some sort of issue, usually its allergies though thank god. But to stay healthy, you really need to have a decent diet. Thats really the key i think. If you don't eat breakfast, how are you going to function throughout the day or your classes, and if your hungry, that will usually make you tired, and if your tired all the time, you usually end up getting sick. Therefore, eating something for breakfast even if its some fruit or something like that, thats better than nothing. Also , you can't go throughout the day eating garbage like sugary things and other unhealthy things, you need to eat protein almost every meal, carbs every meal, and something good to drink. I think eating is a huge thing in staying healthy and not sick while you're at school. But another thing is in your dorm room, try to keep the window open as much as possible. This way fresh air can come in and out of your room instead of the same gross air that all of your roommates share. Sometimes, if you have a sinus problem, i always use something called vicks. It produces strong vapors that help clear your sinuses. But if thats not the problem and you do start to feel sick your best bet would probably be going to see a doctor at the health center. I actually just recently just had to go there for an eye problem. My eye was itchy and puffy and watery and it looked like i got punched. So i went to the health center and they were so nice and it was so easy to make an appointment.

campus safari-club fair #9

When i went to the club fair, there were a lot of really good clubs and organizations i thought about joining. The main two that i liked, were best buddies and the future teachers club. Best buddies is such a nice thing and its hard to believe someone wouldn't want to do this. Its a club where you sign up, and you get a buddy which is someone mentally disabled and you pretty much just hang out with them and do things with them like go to the movies, go bowling, etc. It just sounds really fun to me and with having fun, your making someone really happy which is really the point of the organization. The second club that i wanted to join was the future teachers organization. I thought this would be different because its not as much fun but i want to be a teacher so this would be in the right path. In the club, sometimes they take trips to elementary schools and read to them, around halloween time last year they went and dressed up with the kids, so they have fun too.

the questionnn...

Now, i'm sure i'm not the only one who thinks this, but sometimes when i'm learning something, i wonder to myself why in the world do i need to know this?! For instance in math, when we learn how to solve equations, i'm sure there are many people that wonder where is this going to be helpful in life? So i want to know how many people change their way of learning when they're learning something they don't understand or they think is pointless. I want to know this because from my own experience, i've noticed that if i don't like a certain subject or i think the subject is dumb and pointless, then i pretty much don't even try. But on the other hand, a class like spanish that i actually somewhat like, or a class like inq which teaches you valuable information for your education and also with your life, then i pay attention and try to get a good grade. In my opinion, I think that people are more likely to pay attention when they're not just learning about how to solve for x or the name of the president from like 900 years ago.

Time management

So....apparently i don't spend my spare time wisely. If i have spare time, i don't usually spend it studying or looking at any school work. For the most part, i do what i have to with my school work and try to finish it as quick as possible. Although if i have an assignment due in a week, ill do it the night before its due. Bad habit, i know but i get it done. Also i think i spend more time with my friends than i do with my school work. I think they're my biggest distractions because as soon as i get a text, i would just much rather be doing something fun instead of school work. I think i spend the most time on hanging out with my friends but i also do a lot of homework. I think the times are almost even. I think that a way to improve my time management skills would be to subtract a few from my free time and put those hours with my homework and school work. That way maybe my grades will be better and I'd know more about what i was studying.

campus safari-sporting event #5

The sporting event i attended, was a girls soccer game. I decided to go because one night i had nothing to do and one of the soccer players was handing out the flyers for the game so i thought, why not? It also said that they were 6-0 so that was also a factor because i didn't want to go to a game they'd lose. The game was against UNH. They were also pretty good seeing as though southern only scored once. It was a scoreless game until late in the 2nd half when southern scored a goal on a intense possession.  Although they only scored once they were pushing deep into UNH's side for the most part of the game. This experience was fun because it was my 1st home sporting event that i attended at southern.

grade A blogs !!

Blogging gives you a chance to write down your thoughts and ideas about something. Its also a way to express your feelings about a subject, therefore when i looked at everyones blog and i picked out the three that i thought looked really cool and colorful but also what they wrote in their "about me" blog. I also only looked at the people with different titles. Not the ones that said "so and so's blog" because there was so many like that so it doesn't make them different.

With that, the first blog i picked was Stephanie's. I picked Stephanie's right off the bat because when you open her blog theres this really bright and pretty picture of butterflies and bees and grass and my favorite, the ocean. So immediately i liked it. But also, i looked at her about me part and it was kind of funny, like the stubborn part, but i like how she wasn't afraid to be honest, but then she also put pictures of herself to prove what she was saying about herself. Overall, i think Stephanie's blog deserves an A!

The next blog that i think i'd give an A to would be "Mikeyyy Mo's Blog". I would give mike an A because his is different. The colors are a little boring but he's a guy so he's not going to have pink everywhere. But his blog also has a lot to read which i honestly didn't read all of his about me but i skimmed it and i like that he had a lotto say about himself, seeing as though that was the assignment, but not enough to brag. I think his blog deserves an A too!

The last blog i think should receive an A is "Mein Laben als Tori". This blog should get an A because its so different and the title is really cool even though i only know one word, her name, but it was different. Her about me was just enough to get to know her a little bit and the words she used to describe herself are so distinct which i thought was good. The background picture was pretty and everything was in proportion. What i mean is that nothing was really too much writing and nothing was really too little writing. Everything was just right, thats why Tori should get an A as well!

other blogs....

http://blog.jenniefinch.com/

This blog is about Jennie Finch, my all time favorite softball player, and pitcher. It talks about her life, and also her children. Another thing that she mentions is how she got to where she is today, and also what she still does to stay somewhat with softball. Jennie Finch is/was a fantastic softball pitcher for the USA team. She has been so successful throughout her career. She has been a softball player, a model, she has a loving family including 2 sons, and also a softball equipment line such as bats, gloves, batting gloves, etc.

http://boxerblogger.blogspot.com/

This blog is all about boxer puppies. Since the time I was little, my family has only had boxer dogs. Personally, I think they're the cutest puppies and grow up to be just as cute. This blog is mainly about what boxer puppies like to do, what they like to eat and how much they love people. I remember when my boxer could never just lay on the ground by herself, she would just always find someones lap to place herself on. Boxers are the perfect size dog. They're not too big and they are not to small, they usually grow to around 70 pounds, and usually live to be about 8 years old. By reading the blog, the 1st paragraph talks about how dogs shouldn't eat chocolate. This reminds me of a time when my dog emmie was really sick one day and we also had little turtles at the same time, so we called the vet telling them that we were very concerned because a turtle was missing and we thought she had eaten the turtle. The vet on the other line told us that dogs should not be eating chocolate and we just had to laugh because we knew she was thinking about a chocolate turtle and we were talking about a real turtle.

they say, i say. campus safari #2

"They say, I say" was a book mentioned by a teacher of mine because its a little book that has a lot of grammar, writing examples and a lot of other very useful information for writing. While browsing through it i saw that there was a lot of examples. But the book also tries to teach the people reading it how to paraphrase what people say so its in their own words, and also it kinda of tells you how to take good notes which is also paraphrasing. The book was somewhat easy to locate because i went to the bookstore to find it because i know that its a book used at this school. As a matter of fact, two of my teachers mentioned this book because they both said it was a fantastic book to help with writing and note taking. The first class was Anthropology because it teaches about arguments and statements, and the second class was history. My history teacher mentioned it because theres going to be a paper to write and also because we take a whole bunch of notes in her class so she wants us to paraphrase and take good notes.

think a little. (part 2)

While reading the article, "How to become a deep thinker at college" it obviously made me think but it made me think about what classes to take in college, and how to not just aim for the bare minimum but to aim for a goal. A goal in college is a very common thing for most college students to start out with but those who actually reach their goal is a much smaller number than the ones that started with it. Quite honestly, i remember in high school when we firsts started the year off and all the teachers made their students write on a little note card asking their name, address, hobby, blah blah blah and also their goal for the year.  And of course everyone would write what the teacher wanted to see and then just forgot about it for the rest of the year. One of my teachers, my advisory teacher, took the goals seriously and i had this one class for 4 years with the same people and wed only go once a month but for 4 years and every time we went to this class she would hand back our goal papers to see if we wanted to add anything and see if we were keeping up with them. So everyone over the years changed their goals obviously and made them more realistic.

think a little

When you tell a kid not to do something, why do most of them do it? For example, in the video "Don't eat the marshmallow" a few 4 year olds were tested and put in a room and were told to "not eat the marshmallow" for 4 minutes, and if they didn't eat the marshmallow, they got a second marshmallow to eat. What this tested was that when these kids got older, if they would succeed or not. In my opinion, i think this is somewhat a good plan to see how successful these kids will be in the future but then again, we were all 4 once, and we can somewhat remember what it was like and i know that if there was candy in front of me and i had to just sit next to it for 4 minutes, i'm not sure if id pass the test! That's a hard task for a little kid, especially for that long, to a little kid that could seem like a day to a teenager.
So, work hard, or work smart? Tom Weber says that both are your best bet. I think i'd have to agree. Working hard is always working, not stopping until its done, no cutting corners just to get done, and always doing your best job on it (in my words). But working smart, is almost the opposite. Working smart is cutting corners, skimming the edge with any assignment your given. Although your cutting corners while being a smart worker though, your still doing your job and doing well. So therefore both are wise decisions and great work ethics.

campus safari-becoming an RA! #4

To become a RA, there are a few requirements that you must fulfill. The first requirement is that you need to have lived on campus for at least 1 sermester. The requirement is that you have to maintain a minimum GPA of a 2.75. In order to apply for the RA job you must apply in January or sooner. You must also show that you have leadership under your belt.

Some advantages of becoming an RA is that you have free housing for time your a RA and you have a free meal plan. In the words of my RA(erika), she thinks its a overall good experience and she said that it does not hurt to have a big bed and room all to yourself.

Also while interviewing Erika, she said that its good to have someone respectable and relatable on your floor and someone to talk to. She also said that by having someone relatable, like someone around the same age, its easier to go to them if you have a problem. Most RA's in the freshmen/sophomore dorms are mostly juniors because they are supposed to give you valuable information and if a sophomore was a RA they are fairly new to the school. The floor RA's have to make bulletin that show more valuable information. Another good advantage of having a RA around your age is that they are a mentor for you. For example if you needed help with your homework, you can just go to them for their help. By no means do they want to act as your mother but they're there if you need them.

just me !

First, i like to think i'm a pretty nice person. I just don't like when people are rude. Its so unnecessary. Also i think i'm nice because if any one of my friends calls me i always comfort them no matter what it deals with. Which could also mean caring but it pretty much falls under the same category.

Second, i love to play softball and i love ice cream. I've been playing softball for 13 years and everyone in my family has as well, except my mom but she goes to all the games. I've been a pitcher for 9 years. But also, my favorite food in the entire world is ice cream. My favorite though is mint chocolate, with hot fudge and sprinkles of course. I actually work at a place called sundae spa which is a spa for little kids thats based around candy and ice cream and every employee needs to pick a candy name so mine was obviously sprinkles.

Third, i have a great sense of humor. I laugh A LOT. But sometimes i think its better than being grumpy all the time. Back in Wolcott, some people call me giggles. It just fits me because i'm usually in a good mood and laughing.

Next, i am a huge family person. In my family, i have a mom, dad, a twin sister, and a little sister. I'm the kind of person that loves to hang out with my family. I want to go home every weekend just because i cant go that long without seeing them. We're all very close and we don't really get sick of each other as much a other people my age would get sick of their parents.

Last, i love animals. I especially love dogs. My favorite kind of dogs are boxer dogs. They're the perfect size and they're just really cute in my opinion. In my lifetime, i've had 2 boxers. But i've also had other animals, such as tons of fish, a kitten, a hamster, turtles, hermit crabs, and also one of my dogs had 2 litters of puppies. The first time she had 8 puppies, and the second time she had 7. I'm definitely not going to be a crazy cat lady but really do love animals.

the freshman experience

SCSU is a small university, which i think is a good way to start your first year in college. I also like how all of my classes are in the same building. I remember when we were at orientation and our OA's were telling us about how we only have 10 minutes sometimes to go from class to class, so as it was getting closer to the start of school, i was getting nervous that i wouldn't make my class on time. But it really wasn't bad at all. Also i wasn't sure where anything was because at orientation, it was the first week and the temperatures outside were at an all time high, i think 110 maybe, so we stayed inside like the whole time so we couldn't really see much of the campus.
Some major goals i have for my freshman year are to meet tons of new people, be open to trying new things, and also to stay on top of all my homework seeing as though its a lot more than high school! I also expect my classes to be much more complicated and more difficult than last year. The teachers aren't as close to the students as last year and also some teachers might not even know your name, which is a complete change from high school when every teacher knew your name and most classes had 20-30 people, unlike now when there could be over 100 people in a class!
But now that the first couple days have come to an end now i have realized that college isn't exactly what i had expected. Some things are the same, such as the classes being hard, but the homework being harder and longer. But i also thought that college was going to be so hard to find my way around, and the people wouldn't be as nice as they are, and i didn't think i would like college, but so far i'm wrong about those things. Everything is going very well so far and i really hope it stays this way.
